The Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova plans in 2017 to implement the idea of creating a Eurasian Alliance of ombudsmen, reported in the annual report of the Ombudsman.

«In 2017, the Commissioner plans to put the issue of creating a Eurasian Alliance of ombudsmen in the practical plane», — stated in the report Moskalkova published on the website of «Rossiyskaya Gazeta» on Tuesday.

The report explained that the Commissioner «has repeatedly appealed for assistance in defending their rights against their colleagues, the ombudsmen of other States» that have provided for its part with the necessary assistance.

«In this regard, it is very important to create a Eurasian Alliance of ombudsmen, which would at first have joined commissioners on human rights States on the territory of the former Soviet Union to ensure protection of the rights of man and citizen. The peoples of post-Soviet States unite language, common historical and cultural values, and sometimes kinship. A strong transnational migration processes,» the report said.

It is noted that the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have supported this proposal.
