Red tie, a solemn vow before the face of his comrades and the cry of «Always ready!» — May 19, 1922 in the Soviet Union were all-Union pioneer organization. The ranks of the young Leninists took in the third grade, when children were 9-10 years old. In 1991, this tradition was interrupted, the organization disbanded, and the pioneer days has ceased to be a public holiday. On the anniversary of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the organization of the last generation of Soviet pioneers remembers what this day had meant to them.

Joining the pioneers was connected with the offense because I joined in the first place, and we were told that due to some snag the first place will make them pioneers in the Museum of a name of Kalinin and Lenin Museum. I have this caused some children shock: I didn’t realize how Kalinin may be older than Lenin. The details of the event I remember it was very solemn, I had to learn the oath of the pioneer. The excitement, preparation and some sense of the Soviet festival — like demonstrations. It was a very clear evolutionary chain of Soviet man — oktyabrenok, pioneer, Komsomol, Communist and every link had to conquer a certain age. The people who took in the third place, it was considered a laggard in the eyes of the children themselves. In whatever was necessary was in the first or second turn to get to feel a full-fledged Soviet child. Particular ideology it was not — it was nothing more than a test of competition, which is very well stimulated.

Not to get into the pioneers they feared not only losers, but honors, because it was possible to puncture at the most minor things like not returned on time an overdue library book. Of course, we all memorized the oath of the pioneer: I don’t remember now a single line, but then we knew her by heart. Took us to the pioneers in Musical theatre of a name of Natalia Sats. All were dressed in white shirts, girls in blue skirts, the boys in blue trousers. Brought carefully ironed ties, said: «I stood in the morning stroking» — but it is clear that stroked my grandmother, who at four in the morning for this rose. The older children — fifth-graders or sixth-graders — wore on these ties. I am particularly proud of the fact that I wore a tie my teacher: that is quite a high honor was provided that the teacher introduces me to the sacred title of pioneer. There were rumors that iron the tie to every morning, but after a month they turn into cloth — crumpled and chewed. Although the most important honors they were really pressed, but not me. Separate the story was to learn to tie a tie to make a beautiful knot. It was also a special procedure.

When taking the pioneers, the main emotion was pride and joy. While not being a pioneer meant to be sort of an outcast, so the pioneers aspired to be all, although some specific expectations and thought why I was not. The dissolution of the organization passed quietly for me, the most vivid memory — the children ceased to wear ties. Particularly disappointing was not, because the tie’s had a lot of problems — even to school is not allowed, if you forget to wear it.

In a year when I had to join the pioneers, they were just dismissed. I really wanted to be a pioneer, and for me it was the greatest tragedy that it was cancelled. I was mentally completely ready to join. First, my yard had a girlfriend that was older than me for a couple of years. She went with it, and I thought, «Well, when I will grow and I will also go with the tie?». The second motivation is, of course, Soviet movies like «Guests from the future», «the adventures of electronics», where everyone was friendly, lovely. And third: I was always an obedient pupil, and it seemed to me that it is very prestigious.
