Artists from Krasnodar Andrey Blokhin and Georgy Kuznetsov, working together as a Recycle Group, represented Russia at the 57th Venice Biennale of contemporary art — the most famous and prestigious world art exhibition. Their project Blocked Content (the»content Blocked») became part of the exhibition of the Russian pavilion in the Biennale gardens.

One of the Duo Andrei Blokhin told Anna Kocharova about why modern artist 3D printers and how useful the recycling of materials.

«The first project we did together in 2008. Recycle means recycle. We have named the exhibition because he used materials that can be recycled.

Over time, this name became for us, meaning: we take some ideas, transform them, rethink. And still use materials that can be recycled.

Technology has always been involved in art. And we experiment all the time. In this exhibition we use new technologies: 3D printing and special application that allows you to see augmented reality.

We created the sketches, then transformed into 3D models, then printed the pieces on a 3D printer and then connected and painted.

We first used 3D printers and I had a week to figure out how they work how to configure them independently. For the first time the scale of the pavilion we used the app that allows you to see our sculptures with the effect of «thermal imager».

This app works not only on exhibition, but in the city — here in Venice. We have in the city there are eight points where people using this app, you may see augmented reality.

This app gives us a new space for activities, another dimension in which something can be tell & show. Initially, we wanted to make a space where the artist is independent from anyone. We like the sense of freedom that gives this virtual space.

The next project with augmented reality we will have in June in Moscow, in the Pushkin Museum. Of A. S. Pushkin. There we will also use this technology. Our work will be scattered throughout the main exhibition, set in the context. It will be an intervention. When you are exhibited next to historical works, the audience is easier to «read» the ideas that you lay. Art primarily asks the viewer questions.»
