The carrier rocket «Soyuz-ST», launched from Kourou in French Guiana led by the European telecommunications satellite SES-15 to geosynchronous transfer orbit, according to the company-the operator launches of Soyuz rockets from Kourou Arianespace.
«Satellites launched into orbit as part of the successful mission of the «Union». The flight lasted 5 hours and 18 minutes after launch, 8.54.43 local time in French Guiana (14.54.53 GMT) until payload separation» — according to Arianespace.
Initially the launch was scheduled for April 4, however, large-scale social protests that swept French Guiana, and which lasted several weeks, led to the suspension of flight activities at the Baikonur. As a result of negotiations between the protesters and the authorities signed an agreement providing for the allocation of additional 2.1 billion euros on the socio-economic development of the region.
The Soyuz project at the Guiana space center is realized on the basis of an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and France signed in November 2003. Roscosmos is responsible for implementation of the programme from the Russian side and coordinates work with domestic enterprises space industry involved in the program (FSUE «TsENKI», JSC «RCC «Progress», NPO named after S. A. Lavochkin).
