Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in these days celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of. May 18, 1957 at the initiative of academicians M. A. Lavrentyev, S. L. Sobolev, S. A. Khristianovich left the resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers №564, marked the beginning of the research center, which became the largest in the country. Branch remembers a very rapid growth, difficult years of survival in the 1990s, the transition to new business paradigm of the early 2000s. Today the Siberian branch is a highly integrated and efficient scientific structure of international acclaim, the most successful in scientific and commercial terms from all organizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In an interview with «RIA Science» the Chairman of the SB RAS academician Alexander Leonidovich Aseev shared his thoughts on leadership leading scientific institutions of Siberia.

Siberian branch was initially focused on a high level of ongoing fundamental research. Success is inherent in the model «Lavrentyev’s triangle»: science-frames-production. Scientific resources and research areas are concentrated in a small area of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. The interaction was not only through formal seminars and conferences, but also at the household level: members of the same family, their friends could work in adjacent institutions. But today one of the most common accusations in the direction of fundamental science lies precisely in the lack of tangible progress. What can counter this WITH RAS?

Without the Siberian branch of the RAS there would be no development in the region. There would be no oil, no gas, no diamonds. Today the Siberian branch of the RAS involved in virtually all major projects related to the development of Siberia, and the Arctic. Thus, the modern oil and gas production can not develop without science: there’s a huge amount of task for which our institutions are involved in geological, mathematical, physical and chemical profiles.

In the «Microsoft» today, people 300 graduates of Siberian Universities! This is the question about our «bad» education.
