Staff Moskalkova will go to Chechnya to investigate the scandal on gays

The Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova plans to send employees of their unit in Chechnya to investigate information about possible persecution of homosexuals in the region, the Ombudsman also plans to visit Chechnya.

«I plan to, first, went to my staff, the staff specializing in criminal procedure. Itself depending on the results. I need to go armed with some specific data… They have to come up with this data. And as soon as I put together the package necessary for dialogue with the government… then I will go,» — said Moskalkova, the TV channel «Russia 24», answering the question of where the Ombudsman is planning to go to Chechnya.

In the beginning of April, «Novaya Gazeta» has published an article which said about the mass detention in Chechnya residents based on sexual orientation. Press Secretary of the head of Chechnya, Alvi Karimov denied the information of the newspaper, and the press Secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, said that no reason not to trust the information about the absence of any persecution of gays presented by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov in the course of communication with the President Vladimir Putin.

Moskalkova said that he had received from the publication of the names of people who allegedly were subjected to repression due to sexual orientation, and sent a letter to the head of SK.

Prosecutors and other law enforcement bodies of Chechnya organized inspection after the publication in «Novaya Gazeta», it was stated in the answer of the press service of the Prosecutor General to the request of RIA Novosti.

Kadyrov said earlier that the leadership and law enforcement bodies of Chechnya are ready to cooperate with Federal authorities to verify the media reports on the situation of sexual minorities, but no official statements about their harassment still has not been received. He stressed that «this phenomenon is not typical for the Chechen people.»

Council under the head of Chechnya for the development of civil society and human rights stated that it is not even found indirect evidence for an article about the persecution of homosexuals in the country.
