Method for early diagnostics of skin cancer have developed with the help of the original complex consisting of three new devices, the press service of the Samara University in the name of the Queen.

«A team of scientists of the Samara University in the name of the Queen and the Samara medical University and clinical specialists of the Samara regional Oncology dispensary (CITY) have tested a new method for early diagnostics of skin cancer with the help of the original complex of three new instruments», — stated in the message.

As noted in the message, created by a team of scientists Samara methods have improved the efficiency of the active early diagnosis of skin tumors by up to 97%, while the accuracy of conventional, standard clinical studies do not exceed 50-60%.

According to the Professor of the Samara University named for Queen Valery Zakharov, developed a system of spectral analysis enables to simultaneously record the parameters of the skin of the patient in many spectral ranges, which gives the opportunity to observe the pathological changes at the cellular level, because cancer cells of their spectrum differ from healthy. According to the developers, this method is suitable for mass surveys. It not only allows you to accurately and quickly diagnose pathology, but requires no additional consumables and reagents.

For diagnosis, scientists use three devices. The first experimental setup for measuring Raman scattering, it examines the spectral characteristics of tumors, primarily melanoma of the skin. The developers are confident that such a device can be installed in an ordinary district hospital.

The second device — a Dermatoscope — to give a visual picture of the tumor as close to the surface and allows in real time to see and to record for analysis the characteristic features of this disease. The third hyperspectral camera allows for a short time with high precision to make a few dozen shots in different spectra (for different skin tumors characterized by different optical characteristics).

All three devices work on the Oncology Department Samara state medical University, Samara regional clinical Oncology dispensary, and for several months used during the examination of patients by medical oncologists. With this equipment have already been examined more than 400 people. According to Professor of the Oncology chair of Samara state medical University Sergey Kozlov, diagnostic instruments showed the high resolving ability and may eventually enter the medical technology market, as competitors in Russia and abroad from such developments there is little, and the results better.
