The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill after a meeting with representatives of the Roman Catholic Church gave Pope Francis an icon of St. Nicholas, as well as their medals.

«I would like to ask you, your Eminence, to send as gift this is an ancient icon of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, his Holiness Francis, Pope of Rome, and the medals that are associated with my Patriarchal Ministry,» said the Patriarch, addressing the Archbishop of Bari, Francesco’s Cacucci.
As explained RIA Novosti, at the Patriarchal press service, as a gift to the Pope the Patriarch gave «an ancient icon of the Saint, written in the Russian tradition».
Archbishop Francesco in memory of his stay in Moscow the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church presented a large icon of Saint Nicholas, and the Church awarded him the order of St. Seraphim of Sarov.
In addition, the rector of the Basilica of St. Nicholas in Bari, the priest Ciro Capotosto was awarded the order of St. Seraphim of Sarov, II degree, and the Governor of the province of Puglia, Michele emiliano, with the same order, but III degree. As stated in the decree of the Patriarch, these awards these and some other foreign guests awarded «in recognition of the labors in bringing the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker» from Italy to Russia.

The meeting, which was held in the premises of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the occasion of bringing to Russia from Bari of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, also attended the DECR Chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation Archbishop Celestino Millor, the city of Bari, representatives of the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.
