The great interest shown by the Russians to the exhibition «Masterpieces of the Vatican picture gallery», indicates a spiritual and cultural community of Russia and Italy, which cannot afford to lose, said the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill at the meeting with representatives of the Roman Catholic Church.

«Russia and Italy have very strong cultural heritage which, first and foremost, was formed by the Christian faith of our people. And we in any case should not lose the basis of our cultural dialogue today», — said the Patriarch.

The Primate of the Russian Church in this regard, recalled the «huge interest» of Russian society, which was shown to the exhibition of exhibitions from the treasures of the Vatican Museum, which took place in Moscow recently.

«All the paintings were biblical, Christian themes. A huge number of people who visited this exhibition is also evidence of our spiritual and cultural community. In our difficult time, when in the field of international relations, we are witnessing the escalation of conflict and confrontation, cultural cooperation, spiritual cooperation is one of the most effective means by which the Church can help overcome hostility between peoples,» — said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Exhibition «Roma Aeterna. Masterpieces Of The Vatican Picture Gallery. Bellini, Raphael, Caravaggio», held at the Tretyakov gallery from 25 November to 1 March, was visited by more than 163 thousand persons. The exhibition «Roma Aeterna. Masterpieces of the Vatican picture gallery» in Lavrushinsky lane was presented 42 paintings of the XII-XVIII centuries.

The meeting, which was held on Monday at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the occasion of bringing to Russia the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, also attended the DECR Chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Archbishop of Bari, Francesco’s Cacucci, Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation Archbishop Celestino Millor, the city of Bari, representatives of the Russian Orthodox and the Roman Catholic Church.
