The Patriarch of the Coptic Church will give Tawadros II received the award of Fund of unity of Orthodox peoples (FAN) to support the construction of Christian churches and Muslim mosques in the new administrative center of Egypt, he stated this on Tuesday at the awards ceremony in the temple of Christ the Savior.

Award FEPN behalf of Patriarch Alexy II is awarded annually for the approval and promotion of Christian values in society and the activity on strengthening unity of Orthodox peoples. Among the award winners for the year 2016, in addition to the Patriarch Tawadros II, also President of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov and Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

«I would be very happy to dedicate this award to the new civilization center, which is created currently in the new administrative capital under the patronage of the President of Egypt and includes a Church and a mosque. I invite you all to visit it,» said Coptic Patriarch at the XVII annual award ceremony FAN, which was held under the chairmanship of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill.

Tawadros II has noted that today «the world is hungry for love and peace,» and this, according to him, is «the primary responsibility of the Church.» «We need to pray for the whole world, especially in our Church, which gave new martyrs over the past few years. The martyrdom for the sake of Christ strengthens the faith, not only in the Coptic Church, but the faith of all Christians on earth,» — said the Patriarch.

According to Egyptian media, the project of creating a new capital of Egypt, which needs to be built, including the country’s largest religious buildings — the Cathedral and mosque, is implemented in 2015. The new administrative center of the country, expected to be built 45 kilometers East of Cairo.

Fund award awarded annually to heads of state, governments and parliaments, public leaders and cultural figures for their contribution to enhancing the spiritual, economic and political relations of States, have historically formed in the context of the Orthodox tradition.
