In the Tretyakov gallery, the premiere of the film «Revolution — new art for a new world» about the Russian avant-garde, the author of which was the British Director marki Kinmans.

The Russian revolution, the centenary of which is celebrated today worldwide, not limited to the change of the political system. It was a project to create a new type of consciousness. And leading role in this process took art. Marki Kinmans in the film «Revolution — new art for a new world» explores the origins of the Russian avant-garde and its connection with political agenda. For the Director it was important to show what the Revolution saw Russian artists and what it meant to them.

Marki Kinmans is the author of numerous documentaries about art. It is not the first time in his work appeals to the Russian culture: in 2008, the Director created the movie «Mariinsky theatre», and in 2014 – «the Hermitage», which was shown in 34 countries. Kimmons was shooting his film about Russian avant-garde in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Tretyakov gallery, Russian Museum and State Hermitage Museum and the Royal Academy of arts in London.

«There are many points of view on the revolution told by lots of people, but never were the stories told by the artists,» she says.

The tape is unlikely to open before the connoisseur new horizons. It is more like a brief introduction — for those who do not know much about the Russian avant-garde, but wants to understand it. In addition, the audience help the curators and Museum officials, including Director of the Hermitage and the Tretyakov gallery is Mikhail Piotrovsky and Zelfira Tregulova.

Appear in the frame and the descendants of artists: Director Andrei Konchalovsky talks about his grandfather, Pyotr Konchalovsky, and the critic Aleksandr Lavrentiev — Varvara Stepanova and Alexandra Rodchenko.

«While working on the film I was inspired by the fact that many of the descendants of the painters who flourished during the Russian revolution, are busy with art today. Their history brought back to life this extraordinary period of artistic innovation that continues to be the richest legacy a hundred years later,» — said the marki Kinmans.

Considering the art of the early century, Kinmans not limited to painting. She talks about a revolutionary system of theater Director Vsevolod Meyerhold and the campaign train, which appeared in 1918 and acted during the Civil war. The context plays an important role in the film: the women’s movement, the famine, the Civil war, the demolition of churches — Kimmons tried to gather the key points of the story.

The Director shows how artists inspired by the romantics who truly believed that will be able to build the brave new world, and art was their weapon. The government, despite the difficult years of Revolution and Civil war were allocated for art funds. It was a powerful againlol.

For example, in 1918 Lenin adopted the program of development of monumental art and its mobilization as the most important propaganda tools. This plan has provided work for sculptors, thus giving incentive for the development of the sculpture school. Monuments in honor of kings was destroyed, and in their place grew a new ideologically correct monuments. This Kimmons also says, and his words illustrated documentary footage. The film tells about the social realism, which replaced the Russian avant-garde, and the role of Joseph Stalin in the process.

The film is visually succulent: Kinmans not skimp on the images of the paintings and adds to the tape of staged footage.
