Russia and the Philippines on Wednesday signed eight agreements on cooperation in various spheres, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

The signing ceremony took place in Moscow at the Four Seasons hotel.

As explained by Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta, among the signed agreements, the programme for the development of tourism in 2017-2019, the Memorandum on understanding in the sphere of agriculture, the agreement on cooperation in the sphere of defence, the agreement on cooperation in the field of transport, the Protocol on cooperation in the sphere of culture, the agreement on trade development and investment cooperation, the Memorandum on the development of industrial cooperation and the agreement with Rosatom on the peaceful atom.

Earlier the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the package of documents prepared for the visit of the President of the Philippines to Russia, will be signed on Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening it became known that the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte imposed martial law in the province of Mindanao after the clashes of the army with supporting the Islamic state (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) group. Duterte said in the beginning of the meeting with Putin on Tuesday that he needed to return to the Philippines.
