Kazakhstan adopted amendments to the agreement with Russia on railway transport

The members of the Senate (upper chamber) of Parliament of Kazakhstan approved amendments to the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Russia about features of legal regulation of activity of the organizations of railway transport, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

The draft law «On ratification of the Protocol on amending the agreement between the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the government of the Russian Federation on peculiarities of legal regulation of activities of enterprises, institutions and organizations of railway transportation of October 18, 1996» was considered during the plenary session of the chamber on Thursday.

Previously, these changes were approved by the lower house of Parliament. As reported by the Committee of the Majilis (lower chamber) of the Parliament for international Affairs, defense and security, «the Protocol establishes the procedure of opening and closing stations in the areas of Railways that are members of the same side but located on the territory of the other party, and also the order of crossing the state border one side of the passenger and freight trains without stopping from the territory of another party».

Minister for investment and development of the Republic Zhenis Kasymbek, in turn, said that non-stop trains will not be subject to inspection by the border officials. He also noted that in the framework of this agreement within six months will be launched two high-speed trains Astana-Uralsk and Almaty-Uralsk, which will significantly reduce journey time.

The bill goes to the President for signature.
