The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Philippines Alan Peter Cayetano expressed gratitude to the Russian side for organizing the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte and for your understanding in connection with the emergency situation in the Philippines.

«I want to Express my gratitude for the warm reception and excellent organization of the visit of the President of Duterte here,» said Cayetano in the negotiations with the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

According to him, «unfortunately, the situation on the island of Mindanao demanded an obligatory presence of the President of the Philippines Duterte in the country, although it is with such joy was expecting their arrival in Russia».

«I Express my gratitude on behalf of the President of Duterte and the Filipino people for what you are understanding in this situation», — said Cayetano.

The Minister also expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his understanding and the opportunity to reorganize your schedule in order to meet with the President of the Philippines.

«I want to reiterate the commitment of the President of the Philippines to strengthen relations between Russia and the Philippines, the commitment to build a strong friendship and brotherly relations between our peoples,» he said.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Philippines also thanked Russia for the fact that «Russian experts are willing to share their experience and their skills and abilities in the field of security and combating terrorism».

On Tuesday evening it became known that the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte imposed martial law in the province of Mindanao after fighting between the army and a group supporting the Islamic state (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). Duterte said in the beginning of the meeting with Putin on Tuesday that he needed to return to the Philippines.

Earlier Duterte said that will not allow the group «Islamic state» come to the territory of his country.
