Astrophysicists have discovered a protoplanetary disk around a young star TW Hydra, ring of gaseous methanol – alcohol known for its poisonous properties, according to a press release published on the website Phys.org.

In their study, the researchers used a complex of radio telescopes in Chile – Atkarskoy a large grid of millimeter range through which astrophysicists have studied the chemical composition of the protoplanetary disk.

Gaseous methanol, the researchers believe, released during the melting of the ice bodies, sometimes approaching the star.

Methanol can be building blocks for the synthesis of organic molecules. Astrophysicists do not exclude that such processes could be one reason for the emergence of life on Earth.
