Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree approving the draft Protocol between the governments of Russia and Japan on amendments to the agreement on prevention of incidents at sea and airspace, the relevant document published Saturday on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

«Signing the Protocol will allow to form conditions for providing a higher level of safety of navigation of Russian and Japanese warships, flights of aircraft in close proximity to each other beyond the territorial seas,» — said in reference to the document.

So, the Directive adopted a proposal of the Ministry of defense of Russia.

It is noted that the Protocol clarifies the existing regulatory framework to ensure the predictability and security of actions of crews of the military ships and aircraft of the two countries related to the sailing ships beyond the territorial waters and aircraft in the airspace above them.
