Hundreds of people were evacuated on Tuesday due to an alleged bomb that was found in one of the busiest shopping centers in Central Hong Kong, reports the newspaper South China Morning Post.

Suspicious device found near one of the restaurants at harbour city in Tsim Sha Tsui, turned out to be fake, but the police are seriously investigating the incident and would not preclude linkage with terrorism, the newspaper said.

According to the source, which results in the publication, the police have identified a woman who was recorded by surveillance cameras, dropped the subject at the place where later the restaurant security found a suspicious object.

Police cordoned off the area, including the entrance to the cruise terminal. About 600 people were evacuated, and on the scene arrived firemen and engineers.

Experts used a robot to defuse the bomb, which was found after the controlled explosion was fake. To 16.00 Tuesday, the cordon was lifted.
