The Cathedral of the assumption and monastery of the island-town of Sviyazhsk in Tatarstan included in list of UNESCO world heritage site, will remain under the supervision of the Russian Orthodox Church, this would be an example of compromise Church and Museum, said in an interview with RIA Novosti Tatarstan state Counsellor, head of the Republican Fund «Vozrozhdenie» Mintimer Shaimiev.

The decision to include the assumption Cathedral in the world heritage list of UNESCO was made last Sunday at the 41st session of the world heritage Committee, held in Krakow, Poland.

The assumption Cathedral is included in the ensemble of the assumption monastery of the XVI-XIX centuries. The Cathedral was built from 1556 to 1560 years by craftsmen under the direction of the architect Postnik Yakovlev. In the interior of the Cathedral survived a full cycle of wall frescoes of the second half of XVI — early XVII centuries an area of over 1 thousand square meters, the iconostasis with icons of XVI-XVII centuries. The unique frescoes lies in the fact that they are a graphic reflection of the decisions of the Stoglavy Cathedral in 1551, cathedrals 1553-1555 years, the historical value which is important not only for Russia but also for the whole Eastern Orthodox Church and the history of iconography.

«I think we have understanding. Since doing a good thing, we need to take into account the interests of the diocese and how to make the world heritage available to visitors. Should pay tribute, Bishop Feofan (Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan) is actively involved in these processes. I think that Cathedral of the assumption and the monastery will retain membership of the diocese,» — said Shaimiev.

According to the state adviser of Tatarstan, is now under discussion the question of whether to conduct services in the temple on major holidays. At the bottom floor of St. Nicholas Cathedral, located near the assumption Cathedral, the Museum complex is created, which will provide greater access for tourists.

Shaimiev noted that previously seen in other regions the situation when the misunderstanding between religious organizations and power structures, one-sided approach to the issue led to conflicts.

«I believe that the Ministry of culture of the Republic, the Fund «Revival» together with the diocese is quite a constructive approach to these issues, we will continue to find solutions. I think we should be an example of how to find a common language in such situations,» he said.
