The construction of a new terminal at the airport of Saransk are planned in accordance with the government decree, providing for large-scale preparations to the 2018 world Cup and the modernisation of municipal transport infrastructure, including the construction and renovation of the entire ground infrastructure of the airport.

The acting head of the Republic Vladimir Volkov in the framework of the exit meeting on objects of preparation for the 2018 world Cup praised the progress of reconstruction of the airport complex of Saransk.

«Works are in full swing – the building of a permanent terminal ready not only externally, but it is almost completely filled with engineering «filling». Communication system and security system, utilities, electronic component, high-tech equipment — all mounted, and very soon the facility will be ready for commissioning. Also the construction of a temporary terminal,» — said in the message.

The press service said that the permanent terminal will be commissioned in October and interim in December. In the temporary terminal two months before the world Cup will be equipped with the checkpoint through the state border of the Russian Federation.

«The passenger terminal is the Central but not the only objects of reconstruction. With them Saransk airport will get a new runway with artificial turf, taxiways and a modern airport infrastructure that meets the highest industry requirements,» adds a press-service.

The capacity of the new terminal will make up 300 passengers per hour with possibility of increase up to 600 passengers at the time of the championship. After the completion of the reconstruction of the Saransk airport safety will meet all modern world standards and will be able to take the aircraft type A320 and Boeing 737.

World Cup 2018 will be held from 14 June to 15 July at 12 stadiums in 11 cities of Russia: Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Sochi and Rostov-on-don.
