Nearly seven million homes in the U.S. state of Illinois damaged in the floods, according to the associated Press, citing local authorities.

According to the Agency, about 6.8 thousand of homes damaged, with 2.1 thousand of them turned out to be half flooded as a result of severe flooding in North Chicago. The authorities estimate that the number of flooded houses may increase to 5.8 thousand.

Reportedly, the Governor of the state Bruce Rauner declared three counties as natural disaster areas. He also promised to provide any assistance needed for these regions.

According to the Agency, heavy rains hit the state Wednesday and led to power outages and the closure of some road sections. Because of the element were also evacuated to the hospital Lake Forest Hospital in suburban Chicago.

The Governor of neighboring Wisconsin, Scott Walker declared a state of emergency in three counties throughout the state.
