The ex-President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, was sentenced Thursday along with his wife a half years pre-trial detention during the investigation of his case, will serve his sentence in prison Diroes, where sits another former head of state Alberto Fujimori.

According to the portal Comercio, national Institute of the penitentiary system, Peru has also decided to send his wife Nadine Heredia Umali in the female jail Virgen de Fatima.

The night of Friday the couple held in the custody of the Palace of justice in Lima. They were there after the verdict of judge Richard Concepcion, Carranco.

According to the investigation, Humala, as President (he resigned in July 2016), could get money from the Venezuelan authorities as well as from construction companies Odebrecht and OAS company for funding in 2006 and 2011 election campaigns of the Peruvian nationalist party. In 2015 the Prosecutor’s office of Peru stated that it would conduct an investigation against Heredia on suspicion of involvement in the laundering of funds. We are talking about funds which was funded by the campaign activities of Umali.

Humala has commented on the decision of the judge on pre-trial detention, calling it proof of the abuse of power, which he intends to fight to protect their rights.

Humala became the second former head of Peru, in respect of whom elected such a measure. The first was almost 79-year-old Fujimori, who served as President of Peru from 1990 to 2000. He is serving a 25-year sentence for corruption and other crimes.
