The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu said that the invitation of the President of France Emmanuel Makron at the ceremony in memory of Jews who died during the events of the «vel’ d IV» is «a very strong gesture,» reports the AFP.

As reported, Netanyahu arrived Sunday in Paris to honor the memory of Jews killed in the raids «vel’ d IV» — a series of arrests of Jews followed by sending them to Nazi death camps in 1942.

France did not recognize its responsibility for the events until 1995, when the President was Jacques Chirac. On Sunday, macron reiterated the statements of their predecessors, noting that «no German soldier participated» in the organization «vel’ d IV», «France» was organized that RAID.

Netanyahu said that this ceremony is «a Testament to the deep friendship between France and Israel.» According to the Agency, the first official representative of Israel took part in France in a ceremony of remembrance of the victims.
