About 37 thousand people were evacuated in the canadian province of British Columbia in the West because of forest fires, reports channel CBC with reference to the power.

A week ago, the number of evacuees was about 14 thousand people.

According to the channel, to fighting forest fires involved about 2.9 thousand persons and 203 aircraft. As the head of the Ministry of forestry of the province John Rustad, on Saturday one helicopter crashed in the area of the Chilcotin, the pilot survived, his condition is stable.

He also noted that the government of British Columbia has already spent tens of millions of dollars to fight forest fires.

The number of active fires in British Columbia, according to the channel is 162.
