The bodies of eight servicemen missing after an attack by Islamic militants on a convoy in Mali, discovered in the East of the country, reports AFP.

Earlier it was reported that on 9 July, about 10 members of the army of Mali went missing after their convoy was ambushed by militants on the road leading from the town of Gao in the city of Menaka.

«Eight soldiers are missing after clashes with terrorists near Manakau, was found dead on Monday,» — said the Agency representative of the army of the country. The representative of local authorities, in turn, said that the bodies of soldiers were found in 60 kilometers from the city of Menaka. Two military managed to escape.

The crisis in Mali was a result of the overthrow in 2011 of Muammar Gaddafi regime in neighbouring Libya, when the Malian territory rushed to the refugees from the Tuareg tribes. Occupying the Northern part of the country, they declared their «independent» state of Azawad. Later, the Tuareg controlled territories were forced out by the extremists.
