The Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif advised the US to rethink its approach to the sanctions and to «drive himself in the head» that the pressure is working.

«The United States must rethink its approach to the sanctions,» — said Zarif, speaking in new York. «Sanctions will not work. People in Washington need to hammer it into your head,» said the Iranian Minister.

He noted with regret that the United States continue to create «new» sanctions.

At the moment the us Congress is discussing sanctions against Russia and Iran, which are all in one bill. Answering a question from the moderator at the Council on foreign relations regarding sanctions against Russia, Zarif said, «I do not support the use of sanctions. Point. I believe that sanctions are counterproductive.»

The Senate of the U.S. Congress on 15 June approved a bill providing for new sanctions against Russia and Iran. The bill, in particular, proposes to reduce the maximum term of market financing of Russian banks under sanctions, up to 14 days, of the companies subjected to the oil and gas sector — up to 30 days.

The document also suggests that the US President can impose sanctions on persons intending to invest in the construction of Russian export pipelines over $ 5 million a year or $ 1 million lump sum, or provide the projects, services, technology, to provide information support.
