Russian scientists have developed projects on underwater and ice developing mineral resources in the Arctic with the help of robots in the framework of the project «iceberg», according to the Foundation for advanced studies (DRF).

«To date, presented several avant-projects developed by the energy, transport, installation and service, drilling, seismic complex», — stated in the message.

Project «iceberg» is being held by FPI at the Central design Bureau for marine engineering «Rubin». In this framework, the creation of unique robotic systems that are able to provide a fully Autonomous underwater and under-ice hydrocarbons in the area year-round ice cover of the Arctic.

«Development in the framework of the project «iceberg», made by order of the FPI, proved its relevance. Continuation of works is planned in the framework of the state program «Socio-economic development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation», — said the Fund.

According to the document, the development of «these prototypes will allow to evaluate the feasibility of measures regarding the establishment of pilot samples as the most demanded by consumers and to identify priorities for the establishment of other pilot models».

The advanced research Foundation and the Central design Bureau for marine engineering «Rubin» with participation of the defense Ministry, «Gazprom», «Rosneft» and «Rosatom» and the «United shipbuilding company» in 2013 carried study the possibility of creating technology for subglacial development of hydrocarbon fields in the area year-round ice cover in the Russian Arctic.

The Foundation for advanced studies was created in 2012 to promote research and development in the interests of defence and security of the country. Activities are conducted in three main areas: chemical-biological and medical, physics and technical, information. At the end of 2015 in the structure of FPI was created by the national center of technology development and the basic elements of robotics. Currently, the Foundation runs more than 50 projects, they created more than 40 laboratories in leading universities, research institutes and defense industries.
