The Deputy Yampolskaya: call the Russian streets named after Castro, is not worth it

Депутат Ямпольская: называть российские улицы в честь Кастро не стоит

Russia should not rename streets and parks in honor of the leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro, because for Russians it is more important to remember your own history, said Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on nationalities Elena Yampolskaya (“United Russia”).

Earlier media reported that three cities in Russia — Moscow, Sochi and Makhachkala — is ready to assign one of its streets in the name of Fidel Castro. On the possible installation of the monument and naming one of the streets named Fidel Castro said the Chairman of the Moscow city Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov.

“Fans of Fidel now propose to call his name all the squares, parks, mountain peaks. Even in Moscow reported such a terrific application for the renaming of the street of Fidel Castro Bolshaya Ordynka. I hope this common sense will prevail, of course. Fidel deserves any monuments, but it is much more important to remember your own history,” said Yampolsky during the plenary session.

She noted that in the history of Russia had a lot of their hard and selfless struggle for independence, and that, in his opinion, “much more we have in common with Fidel than any monuments and signs on the houses”.

The MP noted that Castro is a true legend, who “gave Cuba more than welfare, he gave her fate.” “It is much more expensive, and it compatriots loved him” she said.

Fidel Castro died at the age of 90 years on November 25. Cuba declared a national mourning lowered national flags, canceled entertainment. On Wednesday, the urn with the ashes of Castro will travel to the East of the island in Santiago de Cuba, where on 4 December will be held the funeral ceremony. The urn will follow the reverse route of the “Caravan of freedom” — the winning ways of the team of Cuban revolutionaries, who in January 1959 sailed from Santiago de Cuba to Havana.
