. Biologists from MIPT and scientists from InSilico, the company has created a computer program that analyzes the effectiveness of tools, life-prolonging, and checked seven dozen recently found the “elixir of eternal life”, says the article, published in the journal Aging.

“Population ageing is one of the global problems facing humanity. Development of effective approaches for the creation of geroprotectors and their validation in relation to man — the actual a challenge for Biomedicine. Over the past few years, scientists have discovered several tens and even hundreds of substances that can prolong life by studying the cells of the worms-nematodes, yeast, mice and other model animals. Can these substances act similarly on the human, is still not understood and the test will take decades, if not centuries.

Moskalev and his colleagues at MIPT, the US and China found a way to “speed up” the procedure, passing it into the hands of robots and computers. They have created a special algorithm that analyzes how genes work, which are similar substances or which are responsible for the Assembly of molecules and assess whether they function in our cells.

Russian and foreign researchers analyzed which genes and proteins are most active in young cells of the body, and compared that with how changing these DNA regions in the elderly. Accordingly, the more a particular substance affects these genes, RNA and proteins, the greater the likelihood that it will work on humans.

Using this algorithm, which biologists have called “trim tabs” (a microscope for the aging), the team Moskaleva analyzed 70 newly discovered molecules that slow aging in animal experiments, and identified ten of those substances that were most strongly affect the human body.

As shown by experiments on living cells, all these substances do affect the cells, but they did not always so, as like scientists.

For example, only two molecules NAC and PD-98059 – prolongs the life of cells and makes them younger from the point of view of biochemistry, and all other substances possessed serious side effects or even reduced, rather than increased life expectancy. The first substance was found in the experiments on mice it extended their lives by 40%, and the second, in experiments on flies-fruit flies, whose average life expectancy increased by 27%.

“Computer simulation is a very good result. In the pharmaceutical industry 92% of drugs that passed animal testing fail in clinical trials. The ability to simulate the biological effects with such precision is a breakthrough. PD-98059 and NAC showed himself the strongest geroprotectors. We hope that some of these drugs will soon be tested on people with biologically important biomarkers of aging,” concludes Alexander Zhavoronkov, the adjunct Professor of MIPT and head of the company InSilico Medicine (USA).
