A bill introducing criminal liability for cyber crimes in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term up to 10 years, will soon be introduced in the state Duma, told RIA Novosti in the press service of the Central Bank.

Amendments to the criminal code introducing a new article was developed with the support of the Bank of Russia and with the participation of the Ministry of interior. The Bank of Russia in his comments said that now the hackers get the punishment for crimes in the financial sector, which does not correspond to the damage inflicted on them, for example, you may obtain a suspended sentence for a multimillion-dollar embezzlement.

The bill recognizes cybercrime in the financial sector is not fraud, and theft. It also introduces more severe consequences for cybercriminals to 5-10 years of imprisonment. According to the regulator, the bill will be submitted to the state Duma soon.

In the “financial stability Review”, prepared by the Bank of Russia clarifies that the bill criminalizes such activities as theft of cash in the Bank account, electronic funds, including those committed with the use of false or owned by another person payment cards, as well as interference with the functioning of means of storage, processing or transmission of computer information.
