The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has called the construction of the Trinity Cathedral and the Russian Orthodox spiritual and cultural center on the Quai Branly in Paris “event in the cultural life of French people” and expressed hope that it will improve “intercultural communication” between the peoples of Russia and France.

On the eve of the visit, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church gave an interview to the French newspaper Le Figaro, which leads Saturday, the Patriarchal press service.

According to the Patriarch, the construction of the temple and a spiritual and cultural center is “the event in the cultural life of the French, who have always been interested in Russian culture, including iconography, temple architecture, choral singing”.

“In this sense, the temple and the center is not only a prayer room, but also the site for intercultural communication on a broad range of issues. We believe that such communication is under the arches of the temple could be more simple and open than that which is store policy. I think that such communication today is not enough for our peoples,” — said the Patriarch.

He recalled that during the time of persecution of believers in the USSR, Paris have sheltered many Russian people forced to leave their Homeland.

“Living in the Diaspora, our compatriots especially aware that the Church helps them to feel as one people, and in prayer to overcome differences that are natural in a multinational and multicultural environment, and this environment is the flock of the Russian Orthodox Church. And here in Paris — the world is in constant motion, students, businessmen, workers of culture and art, tourists. Each of them should be able to enter the temple, where he will find not only a space for prayer but also a circle of spiritually close people”, — said the Primate.

In the opening ceremony of the centre in October this year was attended by the Minister of culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky and the head of the Moscow Patriarchate on foreign institutions Bishop Bogorodskiy Anthony. Sunday, December 4, the Patriarch will make the consecration of Holy Trinity Cathedral and the services therein.
