The General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yury Lutsenko took under personal control the investigation into the death of five police officers near Kiev, reported the press service of the Prosecutor General.

Five policemen were killed in a shootout between personnel of the State security service (part of national police) and the National police special unit CORD in the village knyazhichi, Kiev region. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has urged to punish the perpetrators.

“The Prosecutor’s office of Kiev region carries out pre-judicial investigation in criminal proceedings prescribed by paragraph 1 of part 2 of article 115 (murder) of the Criminal code of Ukraine… the pre-trial investigation is under the personal supervision of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yury Lutsenko”, — stated in the message.

As previously reported adviser to the interior Minister of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko, the police planned an operation to capture a gang of robbers in the village not far from Kiev. Police were waiting for the robbers in one of the private houses, they had to command the capture team. At this time, in a nearby house alarm. On call arrived employees of the State security service, who detained two police officers, mistaking them for robbers. The SWAT team and the unit, KORD decided that the police are in trouble, and arrived on the scene. As a result, between them, the fighting started. The adviser to the interior Minister of Ukraine believes that the incident occurred due to “tragic accidents”.
