The centre of Riga was decorated with ornament that looks like a swastika

At the Christmas fair in the centre of Riga there were decorations in the form of an ornament similar to the swastika that has drawn criticism from local residents and social media users, reports RT.

It is assumed that the “runes” that are placed in the Park “Esplanade” was supposed to symbolize a snowflake.

“Involuntarily stop and wonder what the designer was thinking when he noticed that his creation is reminiscent of the symbol associated with Nazism in the twentieth century”, — stated in the material.

Locals and tourists complain of the Christmas decorations of the Latvian capital.

“Given that here the children play, I don’t think this (ornaments — approx. ed.) well,” said one of the tourists to videoagentstvo RUPTLY.

The mayor of Riga nil Ushakov will not consider the possibility to remove the controversial decoration of the center, said the videoagentstvo a source in city hall.

This is not the first scandal with a swastika in Latvia. Earlier on the grass near the residence of President of Latvia have a symbol similar to the swastika. Mow his gardener, stated that it was a traditional Latvian symbol “Perkonkrusts”. According to him, he used this symbol to help restore sun-bleached grass.
