Vitaly Yegorov, popularizer of the cosmos and the project initiator of the first “popular” moon mission, told RIA of “news” about the completion of the development of a requirements specification for the design of this spacecraft, explained the reasons for the shifts in the launch date of the probe, and described plans to send it to the moon in his blog.

In October last year, a well-known blogger and enthusiast of space exploration Vitaly Yegorov announced the launch of a project to raise funds for the construction of the microsatellite, which would be sent to the moon to get high-quality pictures of its surface, including the points of departure of the expeditions from the Apollo program. The project has attracted incredible attention from the public, and in less than three days Egorov and his team gathered more than a million rubles.

In mid-may, a meeting of developers of the probe, on which Egorov and his associates approved a preliminary draft of how it will look in the satellite, what equipment will be mounted and how large it will turn out. The official terms of reference for the creation of this satellite, as planned by the developers, was supposed to be ready by autumn this year, however, the difficulties associated with the volunteer nature of the project, caused delays in its formulation.

Today the developers of the satellite presented the terms of reference, which will be developed this probe. The terms of reference, as explained by the engineer, to help his team develop preliminary design – detailed description of the proposed and proposed for development of the spacecraft.

Some characteristics of the Russian lunar probe has not changed since may of this year. In particular, he will continue to use a “normal” Russian rocket engine, running on unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine and nitric acid. This engine, according to Egorova, the team can acquire from the state “Niimash”, the creators of the propulsion system of the probe “Phobos-Grunt”.

In addition, Russian engineers still plan to use a long enough optical telescope and a camera for capturing images of the lunar surface, the resolution of which, according to Egorova, exceeds the clarity of the photos, which can be obtained using probe LRO.

Each pixel in the images of the Russian “people” of the satellite will correspond to only 25 centimetres on the surface of the moon, even at great distance probe from the companion of the Earth, which is approximately two times higher than the typical resolution photos from LRO, and will allow you to see all traces of the expeditions “Apollo” on the surface. Also today, Egorov and his supporters are considering two options for sending a probe to the moon by its output to the geostationary orbit, or by its withdrawal to the so-called nonoperational orbit. Both will require assistance or the state, or foreign space agencies.

For example, the second option of sending a probe can be implemented with the launch of the experimental super-heavy launch of NASA’s SLS in 2018, which will go to the moon spacecraft Orion and a host of private student microsatellites.

When “people” the probe will reach the moon, it will be released on a special okolorotova orbit, which will allow him to spend a long time on the moon’s orbit, thus saving large quantities of fuel. This orbit will be near polar – probe, it will rotate around the moon, circling the North and South poles, but at an angle to 84-85 degrees, not 90 degrees. This will create some difficulties in getting pictures of the poles, but it will noticeably extend the life of the probe. According to Yegorov, the project participants assume that the probe will work on the orbit of the moon at least a year, but they hope for more.
