Diesel-electric icebreaker of project 22600 «Viktor Chernomyrdin» was launched at the Baltic shipyard, said the company.

It is assumed that after completion of the construction of an icebreaker capacity of 25 MW will be the largest and most powerful non-nuclear icebreaker in the world.

«We have picked momentum: this is the second descent of the icebreaker during the year. Even in Soviet times, our factory has so many icebreakers in the year did. The most important thing and everything else is going according to plan and on schedule. Icebreaker «Viktor Chernomyrdin» — the final chord of 2016. This is a very difficult icebreaker, but we will win, and in 2018 it will be delivered to the customer,» — said at the ceremony the General Director of «Baltic shipyard — Shipbuilding» (part of United shipbuilding Corporation) Alex Gadilov.

As noted at the plant, the descent of the icebreaker was held as planned. The flag-raising ceremony on the ship will be held in the third quarter of 2018.

The icebreaker is designed for independent pilotage, and to work as a support vessel in caravans on the Northern sea route. Also icebreaker can be used for towing, assistance and rescue operations in ice conditions and on clear water. The ship is applicable for the forwarding of the flight, as well as to provide underwater technical works in the areas of installation of drilling and oil platforms.

The length of the ice, which is being built by order of «Rosmorport», is 147 meters, width — 29 meters, displacement — more than 19 thousand tons, speed — up of 15.8 to 18.3 knots endurance — 60 days, icebreaking capability — 2 meters, the crew — 38 people.

The icebreaker used a unique system of electric propulsion systems – a combination of the two on-Board full-revolving propeller-steering columns of type Azipod with the center line of the shaft and two bow thrusters. The Azipod system allows you to control the direction of rotation around its axis without limitation of 360 degrees. This will allow the icebreaker to maintain control in full even when moving astern in ice.
