A Memorandum of understanding on reconstruction, modernization and construction of generating facilities was signed between «inter RAO Export» and Union Electrica, the Cuban Thursday (Friday GMT).

The signing took place at the end of the plenary meeting of the intergovernmental Commission in Havana. On the Russian side the document was signed by Director General of «inter RAO UES Export» Maxim Sergeev, a Cuban — CEO of Union Electrica.

One of the priority projects of Russian-Cuban cooperation is the construction of four power units with unit capacity of 200 MW from the two existing Cuban power plants: one unit in TPP «MAXIMO Gomez» (Mariel) and three thermal power plants «East Havana» (city of Santa Cruz del Norte). The document was signed on 22 October 2015, may 12, 2016, the contract came into force. The cost of construction will amount to 1.2 billion euros.
