Relevant agencies of Turkey and Russia are working on a new order of calculations for energy trade that will be made in the national currency, said the Minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey Berat Albayrak.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Turkey Binali Yildirim said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the results of his visit to Russia on 6-7 December, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and Turkey have started work on the technical issues of the transition to national currencies in mutual trade.

«Turkey begins a new era in energy policy and will make payments with countries where large amounts of energy in the national currency,» said Albayrak, speaking in Parliament. It cites the Sabah newspaper. He noted that the first step will be taken in trade relations with Russia above what is already working the offices concerned.

The Minister also denied allegations that implementation of the project of gas pipeline «Turkish stream» will increase Turkey’s dependence on Russian gas. On the contrary, Turkey will become an important regional centre through which the gas will be supplied to third countries, he said.
