President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has approved by his decree the draft Treaty on the Customs code of the EEU as the basis for negotiations, and authorised the State customs Committee of Azerbaijan to conduct negotiations.

The text of the decree of 28 December posted Saturday on the National legal Internet portal of the country.

«To approve the attached draft Treaty on the Customs code of the Eurasian economic Union as a basis for negotiations», — the document says.

In addition, the decree, the President decided «to authorize the State customs Committee to conduct negotiations on the draft Treaty, allowing, if necessary, to make changes and additions, not of a fundamental character.»

Lukashenko also instructed «to sign the contract in achieving agreement within the approved project».

Belarus did not attend the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian economic Council at the level of heads of States of EAEU in St. Petersburg, where he signed the Customs code.

Later the press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Customs code of the EAEU viable no alternative to it, sooner or later it will come into force. According to him, the work on the Customs code will be continued at the level of heads of governments of the EEU, Belarus will also take Customs code, as previously agreed on its provisions.
