Rostechnadzor suggested for safety purposes to equip new homes with electric stoves instead of gas stoves, told RIA Novosti press-service of the Department.

On Friday, the TV channel RT reported that the head of Rostekhnadzor Alexey Aleshin wrote to the Deputy of the state Duma Valery Rashkin a letter with a proposal to prohibit the use of gas «as in newly built and in existing homes». According to the document, «the adoption of a fundamental decision» to ban the use of gas on purpose «exceptions of explosions and fires», reported RT.

The press service of the Ministry confirmed to RIA Novosti the existence of such letter. «We are not talking about banning the use of household gas in apartment houses, and about the need for modernising the existing system, in which you can think, for example, and the transition to staffing of new homes relevant electrical appliances», — said the press service.

In addition, according to the interlocutor of the Agency, Rostekhnadzor has no authority to monitor compliance with the requirements of the gas safety in apartment buildings. «Its exercised by bodies of state housing supervision of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation», — said the representative of the Ministry, stressing that the RTN was performed only with the initiative to discuss this issue.

According to him, as an alternative to gas discussed the staffing of residential homes with appliances, given the fact that the use of gas for cooking is about 1% of the total consumption in Russia.

«In any case, the decision will not take Rostekhnadzor. But, really, it was because the causes of accidents in most cases are human factors… for the exception of explosions and fires which lead to casualties and destruction of buildings», — concluded the representative office.
