The Minister of foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez announced the transfer of the post of the Chairman of the southern common market (MERCOSUR) Argentina.

Earlier, Rodriguez said that her country does not recognize the «self-appointment» of Argentina chair of MERCOSUR is Venezuela. Argentina took over the presidency of MERCOSUR in light of the conflict of MERCOSUR with Venezuela, which is 1 January 2017 were to become President, but whose membership was terminated for failure to comply with the rules of the organization.

«Venezuela, completing his chairmanship and participation in major contracts, transfers temporary presidency of MERCOSUR in Argentina,» he wrote on Twitter Rodriguez, which quoted the country’s President Nicolas Maduro.

In an attached note to the foreign Ministry stresses that «Venezuela provides the formal transfer of the presidency of the MERCOSUR, the Republic of Argentina in accordance with the laws and basic agreements of this regional bloc».

MERCOSUR — common market of South American countries uniting-Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Venezuela (joined in 2013). As a fully fledged Association was formed in 1991 when in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion was signed the agreement on creation of the customs Union and common market. MERCOSUR brings together 250 million people and more than 75% of the total GDP of the continent.
