Major US stock indices finished the last working day of the year in the red amid a small trading volumes, but at the end of the year increased, according to data exchanges.

Overall 2016 was successful for us indices, year-end Dow Jones industrial average rose more than 13%, the index of technology companies NASDAQ — 7.5%, and the index of wide market S&P 500 by 9.6%.

On Friday, the Dow Jones fell by 0.29% to 19762,60 points, the NASDAQ by 0.9% to 5383,12 points and the S&P 500 by 0.46% to 2238,83 points.

Many traders have gone on holiday vacation, others prefer the end of the year not to risk and fix profit. Also market participants are somewhat disappointed that the rally in markets after a victory on presidential election in the United States Donald trump is exhaled, and Dow Jones, got pretty close to the mark of 20,000 points, never reached her.

«The market ends in 2016 with a whimper. We started the rally as the lions, and finished like lambs,» said Reuters managing Director of Janlyn Capital in Bernardsville, new Jersey, Andre Bajos.
