The French military has eliminated more than 20 militants hiding in a forest on the border of Mali and Burkina Faso in Western Africa, reports Reuters, citing a statement by the French forces in the region.

The militants, which the statement indicated was eliminated during ground operation and air strikes, the Agency said.

Last year, the UN Security Council reaffirmed the need for the deployment to Mali of a new peacekeeping mission MINUSMA numbering 12 thousand people to stabilize the situation in the key settlements, particularly in the North of Mali and restoring state authority throughout the country.
