The state Duma adopted on Friday in the first reading a package of bills allowing you to cancel the decision of acquisition of Russian citizenship by those who received it with false documents or with intent to commit a crime of extremist or terrorist nature.

The bills were submitted to the state Duma in April by the President Vyacheslav Volodin, the leaders of four Duma factions – Vladimir Vasiliev, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Gennady Zyuganov and Sergei Mironov, Deputy speaker Ivan Melnikov, Igor Lebedev and Irina Yarovaya, the head of the Committee on legislation Pavel Krasheninnikov and his first Deputy Mikhail Emelianov.

In the current legislation a number of requirements for foreign nationals and stateless persons wishing to obtain Russian citizenship. One of them is the obligation to observe the Constitution and legislation of the Russian Federation. The decision on the acquisition of Russian citizenship is subject to cancellation if the applicant has presented false documents or obviously false data, which shall be confirmed in court.

The bill establishes that the communication of false information could be abuse by a person of the obligation to comply with Russian legislation, if the purpose of the acquisition of citizenship was the implementation of activities against the constitutional order of the Russian Federation. It refers to committing a crime preparation and attempted crime of the terrorist or extremist. While in force the court sentence for committing these crimes would be grounds for cancellation of the decision on acquisition of citizenship.
