Joint statement on the lifting of trade restrictions between Russia and Turkey, signed on Monday in Istanbul, was an important step towards the normalization of bilateral relations, reads the statement of the press service of the administration of Prime Minister of Turkey.

Russia and Turkey signed a joint statement on mutual lifting of trade restrictions, signatures under the document were put by the Vice-premiers of the two States as a Deputy head Mehmet Simsek. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.

«Today held a meeting of Deputy Prime Ministers of Turkey and Russia Mehmet Simsek and Arkady Dvorkovich. With the aim of eliminating trade barriers and limitations between the Russian Federation and Turkey the parties signed a joint statement. It was an important step towards the normalization of bilateral relations and their further development and improvement of trade between the two countries», — stated in the message.

Russia introduced an embargo on the supply of Turkey a number of products from 1 January 2016 in response to the attack on the Turkish air force Russian su-24 in Syria, later the restrictions were removed. In early may Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks with the head of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan announced agreement on a «comprehensive decision on the lifting of restrictive measures in mutual trade». The restrictions on deliveries of tomatoes from Turkey to Russia is saved.
