Iraq has suspended the import of tomatoes from Turkey

The Iraqi authorities have decided to suspend the import of Turkish tomatoes, said the Turkish Minister of economy.

«As stated by the Ministry of agriculture of Iraq, with the aim of supporting domestic agricultural production, especially in the areas of Najaf and Karbala, may 21 decided to suspend import of tomatoes,» reads a statement on the official website of the Ministry.

Russia introduced an embargo on the supply of Turkey a number of products from 1 January 2016 in response to the attack on the Turkish air force Russian su-24 in Syria, later the restrictions were removed. In early may Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks with the head of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan announced agreement on a «comprehensive decision on the lifting of restrictive measures in mutual trade». The restrictions on deliveries of tomatoes from Turkey to Russia is saved.
