Russia on Monday filed a bid to host world EXPO 2025 (2025 World Expo) in Yekaterinburg, reported on the website of the International exhibitions Bureau (BIE), responsible for the activity.

As noted in the Bureau, the Secretary General of the Vincent Gonzales Loscertales on Monday received a letter from Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Yekaterinburg is the second time vying to host the EXPO. In 2012, the Ural, the city has applied for EXPO-2020, he preference was given to Dubai (UAE). According to the organization, in addition to Russia, the applications for the exhibition submitted by France and Japan, the event will be held from may 2 to November 2, 2025.

The candidacy of Yekaterinburg presented the theme «Changing world: inclusive innovation is for our children and future generations,» he told the Bureau.

«This third nomination demonstrates the high interest in the international EXPO exhibitions. Candidates will soon enter the test phase Expo-2025, which will allow the International exhibitions Bureau a deeper understanding of each of the projects,» said Loscertales, acknowledging receipt of the application. The organizers will review the candidate projects during the next two years. Country for exhibition will be chosen in November 2018 at the 164-th General Assembly of the organization.

The world EXPO is held every five years. The event can last up to 6 months, during which each country may have its own pavilion. The previous World Expo 2015 held in Milan. The nearest exhibition will be held in Dubai (UAE) from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021.
