International humanitarian organization Save the Children urges to take all measures to stop the spread of cholera in Yemen, fearing that the death toll due to the disease can reach a few thousand.

«If you do not take critical situation with cholera under control by the beginning of next rainy season in July, we can see that the death toll is in the thousands, not hundreds,» reads the statement.

According to Save the Children, every day in Yemen, experts fix the several hundreds of cases of suspected cholera, most of the alleged patients – children under 15 years.

The Ministry of health of Yemen, has previously urged humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to combat the epidemic, to avoid «unparalleled catastrophe.» As reported by the Yemeni Saba Agency, the health care system in the country greatly suffered because of the conflict going on in Yemen for several years, and can not cope with the problem.

The Yemeni authorities first reported the outbreak in October 2016. Earlier, the world health organization (who) reported that the number of victims of cholera outbreaks in 18 provinces of Yemen is 242 people. The mission of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) noted «an alarming increase» of deaths associated with the disease. According to who, in areas where high risk of infection, there are about 7.6 million people.

In Yemen in 2014, the ongoing armed conflict in which one side involved Houthi rebels from the Shiite movement «Ansar Allah» and those loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh of the army, and on the other, government forces and militia loyal to President Abd rabbu Mansour Hadi. Air support and land authorities render Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
