OSCE special representative Martin Sajdik said that the number of victims among the civilian population in the Donbas has increased more than two times per year.

«Today I want to draw attention to the sad statistics provided by the Supreme office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights…. All indicators are only getting worse. Sadly, the number of civilian casualties for the year increased by 120%,» said Sidik journalists on Wednesday in Minsk.

He stressed that these figures are confirmed by the reports of the Special monitoring mission of the OSCE in the Donbass.

According to Sajdik, «it is largely the result of continued use of heavy weapons in five «hot spots» and delaying the process of demining».

He stressed that 85% of all violations occur in three areas. Among the hot spots of Donbass Sajdik called, in particular, Avdeevka, Yasinovataya and Mariupol. «This means that, in principle, with the good will of the parties to refrain from such armed conflicts,» said Sidik.

He urged parties to the conflict in the Donbass to observe the obligations under international law and to protect the population on both sides of the line of contact.
