The Russian state cannot be imagined without the spiritual, the historical experience of the Russian Orthodox Church, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during the ceremony of the consecration of the new temple at the Sretensky monastery in Moscow.

On Thursday, Putin arrived in the Sretensky monastery on the opening of the new temple of Christ’s resurrection and new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.

«Our country – the Russian state – it is impossible to imagine without the spiritual, the historical experience of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is passed on from generation to generation through the pastoral word. And sure, the new Church of the Sretensky monastery will be a bright, attractive centre of religious and educational activities and will contribute to the perpetuation in our society of goodness, mutual respect and reconciliation,» Putin said on Thursday.

New Cathedral on the territory of the Sretensky monastery was built for more than three years on donations and was built for the 100th anniversary of the tragic revolutionary events of 1917.

For his part, the mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin stressed that Moscow continues the restoration of dozens of churches. «Together, we return to the spiritual and cultural heritage of Moscow»,- he said.
