American doctors have evaluated the effectiveness of popular fitness trackers, with the results of the survey can be found on the portal EurekAlert!

Scientists, after analyzing the monitoring data, came to the conclusion that most fitness trackers are virtually useless for calculating the physical activity energy (expressed usually in kilocalories), but reliably determine the pulse rate.

Fitness trackers are wrong in measuring the calories burned, the researchers believe, because of the incomplete accounting of the amount of data – height, weight, age, and other individual indicators, whereas the pulse rate is always determined directly.

In their work, the experts reviewed the work of seven of the most popular, according to the authors, devices: the Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band, Mio Alpha 2, PulseOn and Samsung Gear G2. The study involved 60 volunteers.
