The President of Lithuania Dalia grybauskaitė at the NATO summit in Brussels, said that the behavior of Russia is forcing the Alliance to respond to the threat and to increase its combat readiness and defense, said on Friday the press service of the presidential Palace.

According to the head of Lithuania, the overall goal of the Alliance is a strong, well-trained and the most high-speed NATO.

«Russia continues intensive militarization of the Eastern borders of the Alliance, places a tactical weapon and works against the West scenario. In the fall will be large-scale exercises of offensive nature, «West-2017″. Such aggressive and unpredictable behavior of Russia is forcing the Alliance to respond adequately to the threat and to increase its combat readiness and defense,» — are reported words of the President.

Belarusian-Russian exercises «West-2017» will be held in September. Previously, the Department of state security and second Department of operational services under the Ministry of defense of Lithuania has prepared a report on threats to national security, the particular danger they saw in the exercise «Zapad-2017». Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the message of the Lithuanian special services are the total manifestation of Russophobia, imposed from outside, and the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko reported that it is planned to invite international observers, including from NATO.

Grybauskaite adds that today it is necessary to prepare a continually updated defense plans, to include military scenario and to reform the decision-making process within NATO by speeding up the process and transfer part of the powers of the Supreme allied commander of NATO in Europe. In addition, the President stressed that he would change geographical dislocation of NATO forces in Europe.

«We need to change the geographical dislocation of NATO forces and heavy equipment. At the moment, the forces of the Alliance stationed in the outdated logic of the cold war, mainly in the West and South of Europe. On the Eastern flank is also necessary to ensure the permanent presence of a contingent of allies and pre-positioning of heavy military equipment, which if necessary could take advantage of the rapid reaction force and NATO», — says the head of the Baltic Republic, speaking in support of aspirations of Georgia and Ukraine to become members of the transatlantic community.

The Russian side has repeatedly denied claims about a military threat from Moscow of the independence of the Baltic countries. According to the head of the Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, such statements are absurd and unfounded. In the Baltic States deployed battalions of NATO near the borders with Russia, the Alliance regularly holds maneuvers in the region. According to the head of the defense Ministry of Russia Sergey Shoigu, the grouping of NATO near the Western borders of Russia has increased for ten years eight times.
